If you’re anything like me you have thousands of photos on your phone of your kids doing all sorts of fun and amazing things. You have photos from that time you took them to that museum, or you have photos of them splashing around that fun waterpark you brought them to. You have photos of them playing in the backyard, riding their bikes, you even have photos of them zoning out on their ipads. But what’s missing from all of these amazing photos of their childhood? Are you in the photos too? Again, if you’re anything like me you have a thousand reasons not to be in them. Your weight, your hair, you haven’t showered in 5 days..lol.. But let me tell you what I have come to realize now that my kids are 10 and 7. The most important thing you can do is to be in the frame with your kids. It’s actually not for you..it’s for them! You’ve given them such an amazing gift by documenting their childhood, but what they really need to see when they look back 20 years from now is that you were right there with them. You were the one that planned all these fun moments for them, and there you are…right there with them. Messy hair, worn out yoga pants and all. Not to get too dramatic or morose, but one day these photos will be all they have of you.

And if you’re so inclined you can take this concept one step further and have professional photos done with you and your kids. These are one of my favourite shoots to do. Capturing this bond between mother and child is quite frankly, humbling for me. As your kids grow up, will their be anything more priceless than images like these?
