Newborn Photography FAQs

Newborn Photography in Ancaster, Ontario

Hello, lovely parents and parents-to-be! I can’t tell you how honoured I feel capturing the precious moments of your newborn’s early days. To ensure you have all the information you need, here are answers to the top questions I receive about newborn photography sessions:

Q1: When is the best time to schedule a newborn photoshoot?

A: The ideal time for newborn photography is within the first 14 days of your baby’s life. During this period, newborns are still very sleepy, allowing for easy posing and prop changes. It’s best to schedule your session during your pregnancy. However, I understand that babies arrive on their own schedule, so don’t worry if your little one is already here – reach out, and I’ll do my best to accommodate you!

Q2: How long does a typical newborn photoshoot session last?

A: Newborn sessions require patience and flexibility, ensuring your baby feels comfortable and relaxed throughout the session. On average, a regular newborn session can last about 2 hours. I also offer mini sessions that are 1 hour long. This time-frame allows for feeding, soothing, and creativity!

Q3: What should we bring to the photoshoot?

A: When you arrive for your newborn session, bring along everything your baby might need – diapers, wipes, extra outfits, and, of course, their favorite blanket or toy for added comfort. Feel free to bring any special props or accessories you’d like to incorporate into the photos. For family photos I always recommend neutral, soft-toned clothing, so the focus remains on your little one.

Q4: How can we prepare our baby for the photoshoot?

A: To help your baby stay calm and content during the photoshoot, try to feed them just before you arrive at the studio. Make sure you have enough milk/formula for extra feedings. You may find that your baby will need to eat more than double what they normally eat during the session. This is normal and is usually due to the fact that s/he will be moved around a lot for posing etc, which will burn more calories making them work up an appetite. The most successful sessions happen when baby has an abundance of food. A well-fed baby is a happy baby!

Another great tip is to try and get your baby in a sleepy mood by keeping them awake and active for a little while before the session. This can help them fall into a deep sleep during the shoot, making it easier to capture those adorable, snuggly poses.

I hope this post provides a better understanding of what to expect during your Newborn Session. If you have any more questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I can’t wait to create beautiful artistry together with your precious new arrival!
